CHANCE

Hello, Steve!

For this project, we were told to make something about chance. I know, I was confused as well.

Upon asking our professor what she meant, she told us to make a 20 point collage about what chance means to us. I didn't know where to start so I just googled the word.

According to Google, chance can be defined as a possibility of something happening.

To me, this has two connotations. Chance is basically what rules our lives. There's a chance anything can happen. I am where I am in life because of chance. I could be anywhere else, but by chance, I am here.

I don't know how or why, but all of that made me think of palm readings and how palm readers supposedly use your hands to tell you how long you'll live and things like that. So I chose hands to represent chance.

At first, I was going to use the hands of strangers for the project, and interview all of them to see where they thought chance would take them next. However, i decided to go more personal, and use the hands of my closest friends and loved ones. I took pictures of the hands of my friends here in SCAD, and asked my friends and family back home to send me some. That was messy because my parents are kind of bad at taking pictures, but it worked out well with a bit of trial and error.

I arranged them into the collage and then changed it to black and white. These were the results.
