THE WIZARD OF OZ ANALYSIS
What's up, Steve?
For this project, we were to analyze scale, metaphor, and convergent/divergent thinking in The Wizard of Oz.
1. sclae - a size relationship between two separate objects, such as the relationship between the size of the Statue of Liberty and a human visitor to the monument.

In every scene with the munchkins we can see scale be represented because they are so much smaller than Dorothy and Glinda.
We can also see scale be represented in the difference of size between Dorothy and Toto

2. metaphor - a thing regarded as representative or symbolic of something else, especially something abstract.

In the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, the line "where troubles melt like lemon drops" is a good example of metaphor since troubles cannot actually melt.
Another example of a metaphor are the ruby shoes in the story.

They're a symbol of power and serve to show how power-obsessed we are. They're put in the hands of Dorothy because she is pure and innocent, and would only use them for good.
3. paradox - a seemingly absurd or self-contradictory statement or proposition that when investigated or explained may prove to be well founded or true.
A paradox is how a witch as powerful as The Wicked Witch of the West dies because of a simple bucket of water, and The Wicked Witch of the East dies because a house fall on her.
